MSSF junior shooters chosen to represent Malta in Youth Commonwealth Games

The four junior shooters that were nominated by The Malta Shooting Sport Federation were all chosen by The Malta Olympic Commitee to represent Malta in The Youth Commonwealth Games 2008.

The Youth Commonwealth Games 2008 will be held in Pune in India between the 12th and 18th October.71 commonwealth countries will be taking part in varios sports. This was very good news considering that only shooting and athletics were chosen among the 54 federations. MSSF PRO Edwin Vella will be assisting the maltese shooters in Pune and is coordinating with the shooter's coaches in their preparation for the games.

In skeet we will be having Clive Farrugia. Although Clive is only 17 years old, he participated in many international events and also won the gold medal in the u/14 category in Venice in 2004.He also took part in The European Championships last July where he managed 115/125.In a few days time he will also take part in The European Commonwealth champioships in Gibratar.Clive is under the supervision of his coach Steve Mock who managed him to reach ISSF MQS levels.

In trap shooting, we will be having Ryan Bugeja. Ryan has a vast experience in competing both locally and overseas. Todaay he managed 114/125 in The Soutern Shooting Club Grand Prix 2008 and won selection competitions in Bidnija.

In Double trap we have Derek Bonanno. Derek is William Chetcuti's nephnew and he have been shooting douuble trap for a few years now under the supervision of Jimmy Bugeja.

In 10 M Air rifle we will be having Charlot Chircop. Charlot is taking his sport very seriously and his scores has been improving coniderably. He is well monitered by his coach Lawrence Darmanin. Charlot is also taking part in The European Commonwealths in Gibraltar.

14 August 2008 - William Chetcuti in 8 th place at Beijing Olympics

Double Trap Maltese shooter William Chetcuti finished in the 8 th place during
The Beijing Olympic Games.
William had a fine start when he managed 47 in the first round, followed by 45 and 44 in the next rounds.With 136 he was equal 6 th with another 3 shooters and had to go for a shoot off for a position in the barrage final. He missed a target from the second pair to finish in the 8 th place overall.
This position is the best ever by a Maltese athlete during Olympic games.
Walton Eller of USA won gold with 189
Francesco Daniello of Italy won silver with 187
Hu Binyuan of China won bronze with 184
